Kala Namak, globally known as Himalayan Black Salt and in Unani medicine as Namak Siyah, is a kiln-fired rock salt with a sulfurous, pungent smell. It starts as Himalayan Pink Salt and is then fired in a furnace for 24 hours with charcoal and small amounts of traditional herbs (like Harad seeds) to achieve its dark purple-to-black crystalline hue. In Unani and Ayurvedic traditions, it is classified as a "Warming" mineral. Unlike regular table salt, Kala Namak is lower in sodium and rich in essential minerals like iron and magnesium, making it a staple in natural health remedies for over two millennia.
