Harmala, botanically known as Peganum harmala and commonly referred to as Syrian Rue or Ispand, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the arid regions of the Middle East and Mediterranean, extending into India and Pakistan. In Unani and Greco-Arabic medicine, Harmala is classified as having a "Hot and Dry" (Garm-o-Khushk) temperament in the third degree. It is celebrated for its potent alkaloids (Harmine and Harmaline) and has been used for centuries to treat deep-seated neurological pains, respiratory congestion, and to clear morbid humors from the body.
