Gurmar Buti, known scientifically as Gymnema sylvestre, is a potent climbing shrub native to the tropical forests of India, Africa, and Australia. The name "Gurmar" is derived from Hindi/Urdu meaning "Sugar Destroyer," a tribute to its most fascinating characteristic: chewing the leaves temporarily suppresses the ability to taste sweetness. In Unani and Greco-Arabic medicine, Gurmar is classified as having a "Hot and Dry" (Garm-o-Khushk) temperament. It has been used for over 2,000 years as a primary therapeutic agent to regulate sugar metabolism and cleanse the digestive tract.
