Suranjan Shireen (Meadow Saffron)

Suranjan, botanically known as Colchicum luteum and globally recognized as Meadow Saffron, is a small, bulbous perennial herb found in the temperate Himalayas and Mediterranean regions. In Unani and Greco-Arabic medicine, Suranjan is divided into two types: Shireen (Sweet) and Talkh (Bitter). Suranjan Shireen is the variety used for internal consumption. Classified as having a "Hot and Dry" (Garm-o-Khushk) temperament in the third degree, it is the most respected herb for treating "Cold" and "Phlegmatic" disorders of the musculoskeletal system. It contains the alkaloid Colchicine, which is world-renowned for its specific action against inflammatory joint conditions.
