Elaichi Kalan (Black Cardamom / Large Cardamom)

Elaichi Kalan, botanically known as Amomum subulatum and commonly referred to as Black Cardamom or Large Cardamom, is a robust aromatic spice native to the eastern Himalayas. Unlike the delicate green cardamom, Elaichi Kalan is characterized by its large, dark brown, wrinkled pods and a distinctively bold, smoky aroma. In Unani and Greco-Arabic medicine, it is classified as having a "Hot and Dry" (Garm-o-Khushk) temperament. It is highly valued for its intense warming properties, which are used to ignite the digestive fire, liquefy morbid phlegm, and invigorate the vital organs.
