The term "Laooq" refers to a semi-solid linctus intended to be licked slowly, while "Khiyar Shambar" is the Arabic/Persian name for Amaltas (Cassia Fistula), the chief ingredient of this formulation.
This formulation is unique as it serves a dual purpose: it acts as a powerful Munaffis-e-Balgham (Expectorant) to clear the respiratory tract and a Mulayyin (Gentle Laxative) to cleanse the bowels. In Unani medicine, it is specifically used to treat chronic cough, asthma, and bronchitis where the phlegm is thick and difficult to expel. By "softening" the chest and the intestines, it ensures that morbid humors are effectively eliminated from the body.
