Ajwain Khurasani (Henbane)

Ajwain Khurasani, botanically known as Hyoscyamus niger and globally recognized as Henbane, is a biennial plant native to the Mediterranean and temperate regions of Asia (including Khurasan, Iran, and the Himalayas). Despite its name, it is not a variety of true Ajwain (Carom seeds) but belongs to the Solanaceae family. In Unani and Greco-Arabic medicine, it is classified as having a "Cold and Dry" (Barid-o-Yabis) temperament in the third degree. It is a highly potent herb rich in alkaloids like Hyoscyamine and Scopolamine, making it one of the most powerful natural sedatives and antispasmodics in traditional pharmacopoeias.
